Poll

Only two in ten people trust Irish politicians - do you?

The breakdowns are broadly similar across regions and genders.

ONLY 22% OF Irish people trust TDs and councillors, a new poll finds.

The findings of a Claire Byrne Live/Amárach Research poll also found that just two people in ten have faith in their local politicians.

The findings come after an RTÉ documentary showed a host of wrongdoing among politicians flouting rules about the non-disclosure of business interests.

The poll found that 22% of people in Ireland trust politicians, 60% do not and 18% don’t know.

The breakdowns are broadly similar across regions and genders.

In other questions, the poll found that 36% of Irish people support the introduction of a sugar tax, while 56% were against it. A further 8% were unsure.

A third question asked if people supported Ireland taking more than the 4,000 refugees it has pledged to take. Just 20% said yes, 67% said no and 13% didn’t know.

What about you? Do you trust your local TDs and councillors?
