Tubridy to fill Norton’s BBC slot this summer

The broadcaster will take over Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2 Saturday morning show this summer – and will also continue to present his 2FM slot and the Late Late Show.

RYAN TUBRIDY IS to present a radio slot for BBC Radio 2 this summer – filling in for Graham Norton from the end of July until the beginning of September.

The agreement will not be finalised for another fortnight, but Tubridy said this morning he will continue to present both his daily 2FM radio slot and RTÉ’s Late Late Show.

The BBC show will take place on Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm.

The slot was taken over by Tubridy’s fellow Irishman Graham Norton after previous host Jonathan Ross left the BBC last year. The Irish Times reports that Tubridy was approached last year to take over the part-time summer slot but declined due to professional and personal reasons.

There has been speculation about how much Tubridy, who earns a salary of €533,000 from RTÉ, will receive for his work from the BBC – however Tubridy indicated this figure is substantially off the mark.

Speaking on his radio programme this morning, Tubridy said: “If it does happen, the likelihood is that it would be for about eight weeks and it won’t interfere with what I do here in RTÉ. If it’s fully, fully confirmed I’ll you tell about it.”

He also said that he had been “well supported” by his colleagues and management at RTÉ, adding: “I’m not going anywhere long term”.

Asked if he had voted in TheJournal.ie‘s poll today - Do you believe there’s a future for you in Ireland? – Tubridy tweeted: “Ha ha…I’ll have to think about how I cast my vote on that one..”
