Two arrested over discovery of bomb-making equipment in Mayo

The components for bomb-making were recovered from a house in Claremorris on Saturday evening.

TWO MEN have been arrested as part of an ongoing Garda investigation into dissident republican activity in the West, after bomb-making equipment was recovered from a house in Co Mayo over the weekend.

The explosive substances and bomb-making equipment were found at a house in Clogher, Claremorris, Co Mayo on Saturday evening.

An Army explosives ordnance disposal team was dispatched to the scene, which was sealed off for some time to facilitate forensic and technical examinations.

The two men – aged in their late 20s and early 30s – were arrested at the scene and remain in detention at Castlebar Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.

Gardaí said the investigation into dissident republican activity was ongoing.
