  • I’d say it was some “joint” operation all right.

If cannabis was legalised that 250k (and more) would be going into the country… Cannabis has never killed anyone. Alcohol has and causes humans to behave like disgusting animals (recently proved to me while walking home. A man pulled down his trousers, in the middle of the path and took a s***). Ridiculous.

  • It is quite obvious that cannabis will never be controlled by the authorities.
What they do find is only a drop in the ocean.
    Why not legalise it?
And distribute it in a controlled fashion.
Cannabis is no more a dangerous substance than alcohol.
Just look at the social problems that alcohol is causing and it is still legal.

    • Why not just give up altogether and let people do what they want. Sure it wont do any harm!!!

exactly!!, its clear all drug use, speed, ing murder, stealing etc crimes can never ever be stopped

I guess its just time we give up on society and leave it go mad!

thankfully we have laws in this country and its great to see the gardai arrest more criminals like this,

    • Barry and Diddy kong, it is obvious cannabis is on a different scale to heroin and cocaine. This is a grey area that is really only illegal due to the historical illegality of the drug. Imagine the tax money the country could make from sale of it.

    • legalisation is not the correct path, let’s not forget that this is a substance that impares intelligence!

    • I would argue from the point of personal freedom. Cannabis is relatively benign in nature. If alcohol is the standard on the type of drug that can be legalised, then there is an argument to be made in support of cannabis use. Who would you want in town on a Saturday night – a bunch of a pissheads or potheads?

I’d point out that I don’t smoke hash, and haven’t done so since I was a teenager. But I do know people who smoke it, and it hasn’t affected their work ethic or their desire to learn new things. I wouldn’t say Cannabis is completely symptom free however, unlike the usual brigade. It spawned panic attacks on me after a few years of smoking it – which lead to me quitting it. I also saw the recent report which indicated it may affect the IQ of growing children who smoke it while their brain is still developing.

The difference between smoking hash, and speeding/robbing/murder/etc.. Barry – is that hash is benign, whilst speeding/robbing affects other people. So your comparison there is without merit.

I would say however – I don’t believe all drugs should be legalised. Heroin should be kept banned – and it’s use discouraged as much as possible. There is nothing benign about looking like a cast member of the Walking Dead.

  • Cannabis damages memory both short term and long term particular the enthorhinal cortex. But sure what do neuroscientists know ? Anyone I have ever encountered who is a stoner seems to have slow cognition and trouble with there memory and reaction times.

    • Could you define stoner for us?

Is the word equivalent to alcoholic? Or is it just a word you use for anyone who smokes cannabis occasionally.

People are making reference to lowered IQ. Im pretty sure the same studies that indicate this i.e the one run by the journal a few days ago states that this only occurs in developing brains if you were to smoke through your teens. The conclusion is not damning cannabis to hell

Do you have fat friends who eat too much fast food. i’ll wager you do and they’ll develop many more health problems, cost the state more in healtcare and be dead long before your “slowed” cannabis using aquaintances, develop more.

Such a ridiculous argument talking about how bad it is for society when half of the country will be nursing their hangover or preventing one with a large cheeseburger and chips. How can you talk about these relatively benign effects of cannabis without getting upset about the two biggest killers, drink and poor diet.

More people will die in ireland from drink and diet related illness tomorrow than have died directly from cannabis using in the history of the world ever. God forbid.

  • Good work by Customs and police.

    • Undoubtedly they did their work with utmost professionalism but that doesn’t mean that this wasn’t a complete waste of police and state resources. Ask any Guard and they will tell you that they would rather spend their time tackling real crime instead of the Sisyphean task of the so called “War on Drugs”

    • There is less crime in the netherlands than here and they have 5 times more people there why
The cops lower the game to make money of it and when people smoke weed there are not breaking the law cos the law is the constitution not these acts they make up to make more money..they can’t keep the stuff out of our prisons

    • What makes people who advocate for cannabis to be legalised muppets? Is it because they may be free thinkers?

And what are these catastrophic affects on society you are so fearful of? Can you regail us with tales of a cannabis pandemic where a large crowd gathered and smoked and burned down the city?

And why is it so unfathomable that there could be some economic benefit?

But of course we are in your view obviously better off persuing a failed drug policy where criminals have a monopoly making hundreds of millions annually with no regulation or quality control on the product that people will buy either way. There is not one country in the world where making drugs illegal has solved anything, even in some asian countries where possesion can carry a death sentence. Why not try a different approach. What is there to lose?

Try thinking outside the box. You wouldnt happen to be a TD would you?
