If the Irish TD’s were sacked for appalling behaviour we would have very few left in the house. Actually there would be none left – at this moment I think about 3 independents would survive in my book.

The notion of a Nazi themed party is obviously, out there, shall we say, but if it were simply one or two turning up in costume, like say, Harry Windsor did a couple of years ago, that would be one thing. However, tales of raising glasses to the Third Reich, however Oxbridge laddishness the origins of that bright idea might have been, put this into a different league altogether.

Surely defeating the Nazi’s in WWII ( well it was really the Russians) gives the victors the rights to wear their uniforms as fancy dress? Its a free world thanks to the allies. Let them dress up. People don’t get offended by Viking outfits do they?
