Poll: Should parents who impose a vegan diet on their children be sanctioned?

A new bill facing the Italian parliament could see such parents facing jail time for failing to provide an adequate diet for their children.

THIS WEEK SAW news of a new bill facing the Italian parliament in which it’s suggested that parents who force a vegan diet on their children should be subject to censure and possibly even jail time.

The thinking behind the bill is that such a diet isn’t sufficient for a child’s nutritional needs, after a number of high-profile cases in Italy in which children were taken into care after becoming malnourished.

However, in other jurisdictions organisations such as the American Dietetic Association have said that a vegan diet is indeed suitable for children.

But what do you think?

We’re asking: Should parents who force a vegan diet on their children be sanctioned?

Poll Results:

Yes (6212)
No (5793)
I don't know (1249)
