AN ARMY BOMB disposal team has made safe a viable homemade explosive device found on a Meath road.

The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found on the Moynalty Road in Kells this afternoon by Gardaí who alerted the Defence Forces.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the device in order to render it safe at the scene.

A cordon and traffic restrictions were put in place for safety while the device was being examined but have now been removed.
