Watch: Dramatic crew rescue from burning boat

NINE CREW members have been rescued from their blazing vessel in the Persian Gulf by a passing documentary film team, who just happened to be in the area.

Iranian media reports that the ship was transporting fuel from Iran to Dubai when a fire broke out on board:

Separately, reports from Tehran today warned that the Iranian government is considering cutting more EU countries off from its oil supplies in an ongoing row over expanding EU sanctions. The sanctions against the import of Iranian oil are due to take effect in July, but Iran has reacted by pre-emptively halting supplies to France and Britain.

The Iranian oil ministry said yesterday that it had already stopped its oil shipments to France and Britain.

Government officials had earlier warned that they would easily find replacement customers for its oil supplies if the EU pushed ahead with its sanctions.

Confirmed as tug (towing vessel) using ship register. Don’t know why the Iranians would use a tug built 52 years ago to transport fuel…good thing there was a camera team nearby hehe ;)

The “Fadak 150″ caught fire in the Persian Gulf enroute Dubai-Bandar Abbas on Feb 19, 2012. The crew of nine was saved by a small boat carrying a film team which was about to take underwater pictures in the area. The ship caught fire as a result of a technical problem in the engine room, and it took one and a half hours to put the fire out.

The video is all over the place, they could have edited it properly before release :)

Note the “fire suppression” system– a guy with a plastic pail splashing water on a burning tire.
