THERE WAS A heavy garda presence at an event in north Dublin today attended by Tánaiste Joan Burton.

The Labour leader was in Glasnevin to launch the Crosscare Food Bank distribution and training centre, at the Dublin Industrial Estate.

Gardaí struggled with anti-water charge protesters, who were kept behind barriers as Burton visited the centre.

The protest group included Bernie Hughes – one of four water protesters jailed earlier this year for breaching an order to stay at least 20 metres away from metering work.
