TWENTY THREE KILOGRAMS of what is being described as a synthetic psychoactive drug have been seized in Waterford.
The seizure was the result of a joint operation between the Garda National Drugs Unit, the Waterford Divisional Drugs Unit and revenue and customs officials.
The parcel containing the drugs had been monitored as it arrived in Cork Airport, having been sent from China.
This resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old man at O’Connell Street in Waterford at lunchtime today.
A quantity of drugs were found to be in his possession at the time, with a follow-up operation uncovering more.
The total value of the drugs – pending further analysis – is believed to be €813,000.
The arrested man is currently being held at Waterford Garda Station under Section Two of the Criminal Justice Act 1996.
