The sun will make a comeback this week, but prepare for a soaking today. Leon Farrell/Photocall Ireland

The sun is back this week - but heavy rain is coming first

Take an umbrella with you today. Then prepare to catch some rays later on this week.

THE GOOD NEWS is that we’re due to get some dry, warm, summer sun again this week.

But first, get ready for it to bucket down today.

Met Eireann is forecasting heavy, even thundery showers on Monday, with the occasional dry, bright spell in some places.

The sun will make a comeback in much of the country later this week, though, with showers becoming lighter and more scattered as top temperatures rise.

Munster, Connacht and West Ulster will be hit by prolonged rainfall over the course of Monday morning, though other parts of the country should be treated to some bright spells.

The rain will spread nationwide this afternoon, however, with thundery showers possible in some places, and high temperatures will range from 15 to 18 degrees.

Tuesday will be very mixed, with  sunny spells and scattered showers for much of the day, before clearing in the evening.

The outlook for the rest of this week has sunny, bright spells prevailing over the odd shower, with temperatures possibly rising to 22 degrees on Friday.
