Don't get too excited, but temperatures could hit the TWENTIES this weekend

Not the high 20s, but the 20s nonetheless.

DON’T GET TOO excited, but Met Éireann is predicting that temperatures will hit the 20s this weekend.

That’s right, those sunny little icons that (rarely) cover Ireland during weather broadcasts will be going yellow come Sunday.

Seriously though, be happy but not too happy because we’re still a way from any proper warm sunshine. Forecasters are saying temperatures could peak at 20 to 21 degrees on Sunday.

The forecast shows temperatures getting progressively warmer as the week goes on with some warming winds from Europe to thank for the increase.

Met Éireann says that conditions will gradually become “mild if not warm” because of “continental air feeding in over Ireland”.

Ah, bless that continental wind.

On the negative side, today is predicted to be a little unsettled with some outbreaks of rain in the west but mostly dry elsewhere.

Today’s temperatures are expected to be between 12 to 16 degrees with similar highs expected tomorrow.

Looking towards the weekend, widespread rain at the beginning of Saturday will keep temperatures cool at between 11 to 16 degrees and possibly lead to spot flooding in the west.

Sunday, however, will be much drier will only localised showers. Met Éireann is predicting a milder day across all areas, possibly even warm, with highest temperatures of between 15 to 20 or 21 degrees.

The mild weather should also continue into next week.
