Week in Web

Weird Wide Web: Coffee robots, Angry Birds in cars and tracking wine like terrorists

All of your essential tech and social media news for the week in one byte-sized portion.

WELCOME TO THE WEIRD Wide Web – where we take a look at the week’s best offerings in tech and social media news.

Wine-tracking app of the week

Your wine might be that bit more expensive from now on thanks to Budget 2014, but we’re sure you’ll still manage a couple of bottles of a weekend. This clever app uses the same technology that’s used to track terrorists (yes, really) and all you have to do is take a photo of the label on a bottle of wine you have while you’re out somewhere, Business Insider reports. It will find out everything you need to know about it, including where you can buy it yourself and will even send it to your house if you so wish.

Angry Birds game announcement of the week

Oh great, another super addictive Angry Birds game for us to spend hours on end playing. These birds are still pretty peeved but now they’re driving vehicles, according to IGN,  so that’s bound to end well.

Keyless bike lock of the week

Bitlock is the world’s first keyless bike lock that also allows bike sharing and the creators are looking for funding on Kickstarter. The lock can sense when you’re close, through your smartphone, so all you have to do is press the button to unlock it. You can also transfer access to it through the app so you can share it with friends or family, if they want to borrow it. Though the creators claim the lock is on par with the best in the market, we’re sure there are some characters in this country who could crack them…

Coffee robot of the week

It looks a bit intimidating but the more you think about it, the more impressive this sounds. Get a coffee any time you want, just the way you like it every time and you never run the risk of having to deal with a grumpy/incompetent barista who ruins the rest of your day. Quartz has all the info.
