Appeal for witnesses as tributes paid to woman who died after falling from van

The deceased woman has been named locally as Cliodhna Thornton from Barna.

A WOMAN REMAINS in a stable condition in hospital after an accident which killed another woman.

The two women, both aged in their early 20s, were discovered at the junction of Barna Road and Moycullen Road, about eight miles from Galway city, at about 2.20am yesterday morning.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that one of the “possibilities being looked at” is that the women involved were passengers in a van that was driving past the junction, and that the women may have fallen from that vehicle.

Both received medical assistance at the scene and were taken to University Hospital Galway. One of the women was later pronounced dead.
