Female pedestrian (70) killed in Donegal crash

The woman was hit by a car yesterday evening and died of her injuries in hospital.

A 70-YEAR-OLD WOMAN has died after being hit by a car on a Donegal road.

The woman, who was walking at Churchtown in Carndonagh, sustained serious head injuries when she was struck by the vehicle just before 6pm last night.

She was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where she died shortly before midnight.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, was not injured.

Gardaí are carrying out a technical examination of the scene and the area is sealed off for investigation.

The woman is the 189th person to die on Ireland’s roads this year – a jump of almost 18 per cent in just one year.
