Hotpoint recall: Your dishwasher could be a fire hazard

So far, Hotpoint have no “confirmed issues” with dishwashers in Ireland but are monitoring the situation.

AROUND 71,000 HOTPOINT dishwashers have been recalled in the UK over fears they could be at risk of catching fire.

The electrical component fail may lead to “overheating” and is a potential “fire hazard”, the manufacturer said in the recall statement.

So far, they have no “confirmed issues” in Ireland which a Hotpoint spokesperson told TheJournal.ie was “due primarily to the difference in voltage peaks”.

For this reason, and having followed appropriate risk assessment procedures, Indesit decided to issue repair notifications only in the UK. We are closely monitoring the situation in both countries and should the situation change Indesit will review this position accordingly.

The concerns lie with three dishwasher models: Hotpoint FDW20/ FDW60/ FDW65, manufactured between June 2006 and March 2007 and sold in the UK.

What to do if you own an affected product:

  • When checking firstly as a precaution, make sure it is turned off and disconnected from the wall socket.
  • Check the model and serial number of your Hotpoint dishwasher. These can be found on a sticker on the inside of the door as outlined below.
  • The serial number is 9 digits long, if the first 5 digits are between S/N 60601 and S/N 70331 your appliance is affected.
  • If repaired recently by Hotpoint and there is a green sticker on the inside of the door, then the machine has already been repaired.
  • If your product is affected please call our dedicated Customer Service line 08448 910094.
  • Or you can contact us via a dedicated email address: fdw@hotpoint.co.uk
