EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #HOUSEHOLD CHARGE The Department of Social Protection has said that the public won’t be asked for proof of payment of the Household Charge before being issued welfare benefits. The news comes after it wrote to customers suggesting that they bring proof of their payment of the €100 charge as a proof of address when registering their Public Services Card.

2. #MICHAELA The husband of schoolteacher Michaela McAreavey, John, has spoken about his wife’s “unwavering faith” and how it has helped him since her tragic death in Mauritius. He made the comments in a DVD of interviews with lay people that has been launched by the Catholic Church.

3. #PRIMARY CARE Health Minister Dr James Reilly has defended his decision to add extra towns, including Swords and Balbriggan, which are both in his constituency, to a list of venues being considered for primary care centres. He said that if given the opportunity to do so again, he would do so.

4. #iPHONE 5 It has been announced that the iPhone 5 will be available in Ireland from September 28. It went on sale in a number of countries today, sparking huge queues and even protests in some cities. The phone is available for pre-order from some mobile phone networks in the Republic of Ireland.

5. #MURDER The brother of Alan Ryan was charged today in connection with the shooting of Michael Kelly. Vincent Ryan (22) appeared before the Special Criminal Court today along with his co-accused, Darragh Evans (23). Both were charged with possession of an assault rifle and a revolver.
