1. #PRISON: Monica O’Connor, a mother-of-six from Carlow, has been released from Mountjoy Prison after being jailed earlier today for refusing to pay a fine for not registering two of her children for home schooling.

2. #BEHEADING: Barack Obama has said the US will not be intimidated by the beheading of a second American journalist by Islamic State militants.

3. #BREAKTHROUGH: For the first time in its history, a group of LGBT people will beallowed to march in the St Patrick’s Day parade in New York next year carrying a banner, after increased pressure from corporate sponsors.

4. #PROTON THERAPY: Ashya King, the child whose parents were arrested for removing him from an English hospital, is to be treated for his brain tumour in the Czech Republic.

5. #ONE DAY MORE?: The Minister in charge of the 1916 centenary events says she has not yet decided whether the country should get an extra national holiday to mark the occasion.
