EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, brings you five things you should know before you head out the door.

1. #GOOD NEWS: The country has technically exited recession: CSO figures out today confirmed growth of 0.4 per cent in the second quarter. There was some negative news too though, with GNP declining by the same margin.

2. #HYGIENE: Hand hygiene standards have been found to be lacking in a number of hospitals. St James’s – the largest hospital in the state – was amongst those criticised by HIQA, with practices described by the health watchdog as ‘poor’.

3. #MURDER: Two people are now being held in connection with the murder of a three-year-old boy in Lisburn. A  51-year-old man is now being questioned, along with a 27-year-old woman detained earlier.

4. #ELAINE: Investigations are continuing into the death of Dublin woman Elaine O’Hara. Gardaí have made a renewed appeal for anyone who may have seen the 36-year-old before she went missing last August to get in contact.

5. #DIFFERENT HYMN SHEET: Labour and Fine Gael ministers had different views on how much would be saved by abolishing the Seanad at an event this afternoon.
