THE TRAGIC LIFE of talented singer Amy Winehouse will be explored in a new documentary out this July, and the first official trailer has finally landed.

It looks as though director Asif Kapadia (Senna) was able to delve deep into the highs and lows of the life of Winehouse, who died when she was just 27.

After it was shown at Cannes, Amy got rave reviews.

The Guardian’s five star review describing it as “stunningly moving and powerful: intimate, passionate, often shocking, and almost mesmerically absorbing”.

The Independent called it “”brilliant”, and Deadline named the film as the early favourite for the Best Documentary Oscar.

The film was made using archive material including Winehouse’s own home movies, photographs, handwritten song lyrics and demos. It also features the memories of many of friends, family members and collaborators, culled from 100 interviews.

But in a recent interview, Amy’s father Mitch said her immediate family were unhappy with the documentary.

The team behind the film responded by saying they came on board “with the full backing of the Winehouse family and we approached the project with total objectivity”.
