THREE OF THE top executives at Anglo-Irish Bank have pleaded not guilty to unlawfully providing assistance to 16 people in order to prop up the bank’s share price.

Former chairman of the doomed bank Seán Fitzpatrick, as  well as former head of Irish operations Pat Whelan and former finance director Willie McAteer all denied the charges as  jury selection got under way at Dublin’s Circuit Criminal Court.

RTÉ reports that after the 15-person jury was selected, Judge Martin Nolan warned jurors not to post about their experiences online, after a forum post that claimed to be from a juror expressing a wish to be put up in a nice hotel was read out.

The trial will begin next Wednesday.
