A CENTRE AT the Áras Attracta care home in Co Mayo faces being closed if immediate changes aren’t made.

This includes bungalow three, featured in an RTÉ Investigations Unit programme earlier this year.

Health watchdog Hiqa issued a notice of proposal to cancel the registration of Centre 2 following an unannounced inspection last month.

Six employees of Áras Attracta are facing assault charges following a gardaí investigation launched after RTÉ’s programme last year.

And last month another staff member at Áras Attracta was suspended over “poor care practices”.

Hiqa’s latest notice, issued this week, gives the HSE 28 days to respond to the concerns raised following the inspections.

It is understood “serious concerns” were raised over the operation the five bungalows in Centre 2.
