#Áras11 diary: Where the candidates will be today

AS THE CAMPAIGN for the presidential election kicks into its first weekend, check out where you can meet the candidates today:

Mary Davis is due to visit Kerry and will be in Dingle for the Dingle Taste Trail at noon. Davis will be in Killorglin between 2.30pm and 3pm for a walkabout, then at 3.30pm will visit Deenagh Lodge and National Park in Killarney where the restaurant is managed by Down Syndrome Ireland. From 4pm, the independent candidate is due to meet the Rotary Club at the Malton Hotel in Killarney, followed by a walkabout in Killarney town from 5.15pm.

Independent candidate Seán Gallagher will attend the launch of Target Zero in Bewley’s Hotel, Leopardstown, Co Dublin at 11am before canvassing in Dublin city centre later today. Gallagher is due to be on Grafton Street from 2pm. *UPDATE Seán Gallagher’s canvass of Dublin City Centre has been postponed until a later date

Labour’s Michael D Higgins is back in his home county of Galway, where he will launch Open House Galway at the City Museum at 4.30pm. Higgins will also attend an art sale fundraiser for his campaign at Galway Shopping Centre on the Headford Road from 6pm.

Martin McGuinness will also be canvassing in Dublin city today. The Sinn Féin candidate will start on Meath Street at 11am before moving on to Thomas Street, Temple Bar, Henry Street, Moore Street and Capel Street over the next two and a half hours. McGuinness will then travel to Blanchardstown Centre for 2pm. McGuinness will also attend a rally at the Pillar Room Complex, Rotunda Hospital on Parnell Street East in Dublin city centre from 7pm.

Fine Gael candidate Gay Mitchell will be canvassing with Minister Phil Hogan in Kilkenny city from 2pm.

Independent candidate David Norris will kick off his morning in The Milk Market in Limerick City from 11am. Moving on from there, he will hit Ennis town centre at 2pm for about an hour-and-a-half. From 3.45pm, Norris and some of his supporters will be canvassing at Eyre Square in Galway, where they will remain until 6.45pm.

*Dana Rosemary Scallon‘s campaign schedule is still being put in place.
