Army bomb disposal team called to device in Cork
THE IRISH ARMY’S Bomb Disposal Team was this morning called to Cork to deal with an improvised explosive device.
The team was deployed by the Defence Forces to an address in Farranree, on the north outskirts of Cork City, in response to a request by Gardaí who were notified of the device earlier in the day.
The team arrived on scene at 11:45 am, where the suspect device was removed from inside a vehicle. The device was removed to a safe location for further examination, and the scene was declared safe at 1:30pm.
The remains of the device are to be handed over to Gardaí for investigations when the Army unit has concluded its examination.
The incident marks the 30th time in 2011 that the Army bomb disposal unit has been summoned.
