70-year-old man arrested in connection with fatal 2012 hit-and-run

A MAN HAS been arrested in connection with a collision in Kerry in which a male cyclist was killed in 2012.

The fatal hit-and-run occurred on 1 July at Scrahanfadda in Gneeveguilla. 42-year-old Paudie O’Leary was out for a cycle when he was struck by a vehicle which left the scene.

Gardaí issued a number of appeals at the time in the hope someone witnessed something that morning that could help track down the person responsible. Earlier this year a 23-year-old man was convicted of dangerous driving causing the man’s death.

He was sentenced to 6½ years in prison with 18 months suspended.

Today gardaí confirmed a 70-year-old man has now also been arrested in connection with the investigation into O’Leary’s death. The man is currently being held at Bandon Garda Station.
