POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are looking for witnesses following three arson attacks and an attempted hijacking in the past 36 hours.

In the first instance, two masked men tried to hijack a car in Belfast on Friday morning.  The PSNI say one of the men was armed with a gun and attempted to force the male driver out of the vehicle.

The driver managed to drive away and escaped unharmed in the incident.

Separately, three cars were set alight within the space of an hour early this morning in Antrim.

A Mercedes van, a Vauxhall Meriva and a Ford Ka were all extensively damaged in the attacks. The PSNI are investigating a possible link between the three fires and say they are being treated as arson.
