Man arrested for attempted murder during July 12th riots in Belfast

The charge was also linked to rioting and possession of an offensive weapon in Woodvale on July 12.

A 30-YEAR-old man was arrested this morning in the Alliance Close area of North Belfast on suspicion of attempted murder.

The charge was also linked to rioting and possession of an offensive weapon in Woodvale on July 12, after police stopped an Orange Order march from passing through the nationalist area of Ardoyne.

The man is currently helping police with their inquiries at an undisclosed police station in the North.

July 12th riots

A number of police officers in North Belfast were attacked by individuals “wielding swords and missiles, including heavy masonry, golf balls, bottles and fireworks” during the riots. Police also confirmed that a missile thrown at police lines in North Belfast struck DUP MP Nigel Dodds, who is also understood to have been knocked unconscious.
