Aung San Suu Kyi reunited with son after a decade apart

Burmese pro-democracy leader reunited with her youngest son after military junta granted release from house arrest.

RECENTLY RELEASED BURMESE pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has met with her youngest son for the first time in almost 10 years.

The pair met at Yangon airport today, just 10 days after Suu Kyi was released from house arrest.

Suu Kyi, 65, thanked authorities for finally granting her son Kim Aris, 33, a visa after years of refusals, according to Al Jazeera.

The political leader, who has been in detention for 15 of the last 21 years, has never met her two grandchildren. Kim was 11 when his mother was first arrested, and his elder brother, Alexander, was 16.

The Telegraph reports that Kim, who lives in Britain, had lingered for three weeks in Bangkok in case Burmese authorities granted him access.

Upon her release, Suu Kyi told her supporters that she would not feel free until democracy won out in Burma.
