Gardaí arrest teenager over Ballymun shooting which left garda injured

AN 18-YEAR-old man has been arrested in relation to a shooting in Ballymun yesterday morning which left a garda with a gunshot wound.

Officers said they have released two women without charge and that a file is now being prepared for the DPP .They are continuing to question a man in his 40s who was arrested yesterday as part of the investigation.

Yesterday morning, gardaí attempted to gain access to a house in Barnwell Drive, Ballymun, when they were fired upon. One member was hit while an 18-year-old man who was inside the house also received gunshot wounds.

When gardaí gained entry to the premises, a number of shots were fired. The initial shots missed the officers, however shortly afterwards a garda received a gunshot wound to the arm. An 18-year-old man was also injured at this point.

Speaking this afternoon at Ballymun Garda Station, Detective Superintendent Colm Fox said: ”We are appealing to members of the public who were in the vicinity of 1 Barnwell Drive between 6pm on the 6th December and 7am on the 7th December, to contact the incident room at Ballymun Garda Station.

“In particular, we would like to hear from taxi drivers, take away food outlets who may have delivered to this address or anyone else who may have had reason to call to this address.”
