GREAT NEWS. IN less than ten years time, a great many of us should have earned£500,000.

That’s what the Bank of Ireland was spouting on about back in 1970s, anyway.

Perhaps their clairvoyant skills were a little off?

In an advert printed in the Irish Press in 1978, the bank looked into the future to attract people to sign up to a cheque book.

It said by the year 2028, many a young man will be on their way to have earned the best part of £500,000. Sadly, there is no mention of what the ladies should be earning.
