YESTERDAY, THE GOVERNMENT announced a proposal that would remove religion as a criteria in a school’s admissions process, meaning schools can’t refuse applicants if they aren’t of the same religion as that school’s.

There will be exceptions in cases ”where it would not otherwise be possible to maintain the ethos of the school”, such as where the school is established by a minority religion with a minority religion ethos.

The measure would mostly affect schools with a Roman Catholic ethos, which make up 90% of all primary schools in the country.

So, do you agree with the government’s proposal to end to ‘baptism barriers’ in schools?

Poll Results:

Yes, but it should include all schools (5253)
Yes, I agree (4307)
No, I don't agree (3593)
I don't know (277)
