THE SECRET SERVICE is charged with watching the president’s back, but who’s watching his wallet?

US president Barack Obama had an awkward moment when his credit card was declined at a café in New York – because he wasn’t using it enough.

The incident happened last month, but Obama spoke about it on Friday at a press conference, saying that he had initially thought that he had become a victim of identity theft.

“It turned out, I guess I don’t use it enough,” the US president said.

“They thought there was some fraud going on. I was trying to explain to the waitress, ‘No, I really think that I’ve been paying my bills’”.

First lady Michelle Obama was able to pay for the meal instead.
