Postman who died after attack in Co Cork to be laid to rest today

Barry Daly was found dead near his home in Doneraile on Sunday morning.

THE FUNERAL OF a postman who was murdered in Doneraile, Co Cork, last weekend will take place today.

Barry Daly, a 44-year-old father of four, was found dead outside his home at Rockview Terrace in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A native of Newtwopothouse near Mallow, Daly had worked with An Post for over eight years and was a well-known and popular postman in Mallow town.

In a statement earlier this week, An Post said that staff are “shocked and saddened at the untimely death of our colleague, Barry Daly”.

“We offer our deepest sympathy to Barry’s family. May he rest in peace,” the statement continued.

Barry Daly will be brought to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Doneraile for Requiem Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in Oldcourt Cemetery. The funeral mass will also be livestreamed online.

As a mark of respect, post offices in Mallow, including the main town branch and Ballydaheen Post Office, will close early today.

Both offices will open at 8.30am and close at 11.45am to allow staff to attend the funeral.

Daly is survived by his partner Katie, his children Ryan, Jayden Jaxon, Archie and Bodhi, his parents, and three sisters.

Gardaí launched a murder investigation following his death.

Three people, a 20-year-old man and two teenage boys, have since been charged with Daly’s murder.
