THIEVES BROKE INTO a family home in north Belfast last week after seeing its occupants leaving the property in an ambulance, police believe.

Investigating detectives say the residents of the house on Silverstream Road were in hospital when the burglary happened sometime between 2pm and 11pm on Wednesday.

The robbers made away with jewellery and a games console before the family returned home.

Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson said: “What makes this incident even more despicable is that the residents were actually at the Royal Victoria Hospital during this time, having been taken there by ambulance that morning.

We believe the callous people responsible for this break-in may have seen the family leaving in the ambulance and saw it as an opportunity to strike.

“They have been left understandably very upset,” he added.

Police appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
