Budapest’s Pride parade passes without incident
SOME 3,000 PEOPLE took part in Budapest’s Gay Pride parade today, which went off without incident despite fears of disruption by far-right protesters.
A strong police presence accompanied the parade, with side streets along the parade route closed to traffic to prevent any clashes.
About 100 far-right activists did turn up but caused no serious trouble.
In the last few years, parade participants have often been showered with insults, and targeted with tomatoes, eggs and even beer bottles.
Last year’s Gay Pride parade almost did not take place at all, but a court overturned a police decision to ban the event.
