THE MOVIE ABOUT notorious Boston gangster James ‘Whitey’ Bulger is making its premiere tonight in his home city.

A private screening of “Black Mass” is scheduled for the Coolidge Corner Theater with star co-stars Johnny Depp and Dakota Johnson expected to attend.

The movie is based on the book of the same name by former Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill.

It follows the life of the former Irish-American crime boss who is currently serving a life sentence in prison for a string of murders in the 1970s and ’80s.

The conclusion of Bulger’s trial brought to a close a case that exposed FBI corruption so deep that many people across the city thought he would never be brought to justice.

‘Black Mass’ made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.

It’s not the first time Bulger has been given the Hollywood treatment with Jack Nicolson’s character in The Departed, Frank Costello, loosely based on the mobster.
