ATTEMPTS ARE BEING made to contact the family of a woman whose body was found in a luggage bag in north Dublin city on Sunday morning.

Gardaí have now identified the victim, who was a woman in her twenties originally from Malawi. However, her name will not be released until relatives have been informed.

Meanwhile as the murder investigation gets under way, detectives have appealed for anyone who may have seen a man carrying or pulling the suitcase in which the victim’s body was found.

It is described as a large, dark-coloured luggage bag. The bag was left at St David’s Terrace on Blackhorse Avenue in Cabra at some point on Saturday evening, before being discovered at 8.30am on Sunday.

Gardaí appealed for anyone who saw any “unusual or suspicious activity” around Blackhorse Avenue, the North Circular Road, Prussia Street and Aughrim Street to contact them.

A post-mortem showed the woman, who had a plastic bag over her head, had died of asphyxiation.

Photos today showed officers combing through wheelie bins around the area where the body was found.

RTÉ reports that investigating officers believe she was killed near the spot where her body was dumped, sometime between 3pm and 7pm on Saturday.
