A MAN HAS died after his fishing vessel sank off the Donegal coast.

Malin Head Coast Guard confirmed that wreckage had been reported to them around 10.30am this morning near Inishowen Head.

A rescue helicopter from Sligo and boats from Greencastle Coast Guard, Portrush and Lough Swilly RNLI and Malin Head Coast Guard were called.

The body of the man, who was the only occupant of the vessel, was taken from the water and brought to Greencastle Coast Guard Station.

An operation to see if there were more people in the water has been stood down.
