A BOIL WATER notice has been lifted in Co Mayo.
The notice came into effect on 2 September because of contamination by cryptosporidium.
It affected Castlebar, Westport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis, Knock, Ballindine, Balla, Kilmaine, Cong and some other nearby areas.
Close to 50,000 people were impacted.
The decision to issue the notice was taken by Irish Water after consultation with the Health Service Executive.
In a statement issued yesterday evening, Irish Water and Mayo County Council said the notice was “lifted with immediate effect”, adding: “Customers can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.”
