TWO MEN HAVE been charged in connection with an investigation into dissident republicans in Longford.

On Wednesday night, a viable bomb was discovered after a vehicle was stopped and searched in Forgney near Ballymahon.

The Army Bomb squad was called in and the device was made safe.

Four men were arrested following the discovery.

Two of the men, aged 28 and 49, are due to appear before a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court at 8:30pm tonight.

The other two have been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Last week a similar incident was dealt with when a pipe bomb was made safe in Leitrim without a controlled explosion.
