Explosive device found close to Our Lady's Children's Hospital
ARMY BOMB DISPOSAL experts have defused a homemade bomb found close to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Dublin 12 this afternoon.
A suspect device was discovered earlier in the day outside a house in a residential area of Drimnagh, beside Crumlin, and a number of nearby homes had to be evacuated.
Gardaí put in place a cordon and closed off roads in the area, before the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived on the scene at 3.50pm.
They identified the object as a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and subsequently rendered it safe without the need for a controlled explosion.
The area surrounding the house was finally declared safe at 4.25pm.
Army experts are handing over the device to the Gardaí to help with their investigation into the incident.
