Two arrested after man 'climbs fence' at Buckingham Palace

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested by police in London after one of them is said to have climbed the fence to get into Buckingham Palace earlier this week.

The man was found “in an area currently open to the public during the day” at around 10.20pm last Monday, the Metropolitan Police told the BBC.

A second man was also arrested outside the home of Queen Elizabeth II, who was not in the palace at the time, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.

The two men have since been bailed and police have said that a review of security procedures is underway.

“A review of the specific circumstances of this incident is being carried out, ” a Met spokesperson is quoted as saying on Sky News.

No members of the Royal Family were in Buckingham Palace at the time of the incident.

Despite this, the incident is considered by observers to be one of the most serious security breaches at Buckingham Palace in decades.

In 1982, Michael Fagan evaded security guards, climbed over the palace walls and, by going up a drainpipe, managed to get inside the Queen’s private chambers while she was in bed.

He spent some 10 minutes speaking to Her Majesty before she raised the alarm.
