GARDAÍ SAY THAT traffic on the busy Fonthill Road has been affected by a burst water main.

The gardaí, Dublin Fire Brigade and South Dublin County Council are attending to the pipe, which sent water flooding on the street, reaching the wheel arches of some cars.

Houses in the area were evacuated, with one property being flooded after the burst was noticed at 6am.

Gardaí say that South Dublin County Council were informed immediately and they have arrived, shutting off the water.

Four units of Dublin Fire Brigade are in attendance near the Ashwood and Dunawley estates after the 24-inch main burst.

The flooding has begun to subside, but there is heavy traffic in the Nangor Road and Fonthill Road areas. Some people are stuck in their homes because of blocked drains.
