A YOUNG MAN is in a serious condition in hospital after he was badly beaten by an unknown assailant on Dublin’s Camden Street late last night.

The assault happened just after 5am this morning near the junction of Camden St and Harrington St, close to the Camden Court Hotel.

The victim is in his early twenties and received serious head injuries when he was attacked by another man who believed to be a similar age.

After the assault the suspect ran down Camden Street towards Wexford Street as the injured man lay on the footpath being helped by people who had gathered at the scene.

The assailant was wearing a dark top and blue jeans and is described as having black hair.

Gardaí are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the scene and are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have any information to come forward.

They are especially keen to speak to anybody who gathered around the injured man as they awaited the ambulance to arrive. The injured man was taken to St James Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

Anybody with information is asked to contact gardaí at Kevin Street on 01-6669400 or any garda station.
