THE FINAL CHAPTER of the report from the Mahon Tribunal has been published.

The section dealing with development and planning issues in the Carrickmines area had been withheld previously due to concerns that its publication might interfere with criminal proceedings.

The final report – minus this particular chapter – had been released in March of last year. This chapter was delayed because of the (now collapsed) trial involving four former politicians in Dublin who were alleged to have received payments in return for council votes on the rezoning of land for development. The trial collapsed last week when star prosecution witness Frank Dunlop could not carry on due to illness.

  • You can read the full final chapter from the Mahon Tribunal into planning and payments HERE. will bring you further reports on its content today – including the report’s conclusions on whether  certain councillors were in receipt of payments through Frank Dunlop.

On publication of the other eighteen chapters of the Mahon Tribunal’s report last year, it came with a number of recommendations on how to prevent corruption in the future.

It said that “corruption, and in particular political corruption, is a deeply corrosive and destructive force”.
