OVER €1 MILLION in funding has been announced for capital projects in Ireland’s Ancient East, which stretches from Carlingford to Cork.

The latest Fáilte Ireland tourism initiative is aiming to build on the historical and cultural assets in the east and south of the country.

These are the 13 projects receiving the funding – which is being made through Fáilte Ireland’s ‘New Ideas in Ancient Spaces’ Capital Grants Scheme:

Three projects in Cork received funding, while two projects in Wexford were among the successful initiatives.

The Clockgate Tower in Youghal received the biggest portion of funding (€200,000), followed by the Norman Way in Wexford (€178,832).

This second phase of investment brings the total funding under the ‘New Ideas in Ancient Spaces’ to €2.26m.

A further phase of funding is expected in 2016.
