MARY O’ROURKE wasn’t too happy with some parts of it. Our own Political Editor was a fan. People on Twitter had various opinions, though some thought it reminded them too much of Love/Hate at times.

Yes, Charlie has had everyone talking today – and no surprise, given that 724,000 TV viewers tuned into RTÉ One to watch it last night.

The new three-part drama delivered a 43.5% audience share, with an additional 21,000 people watching the first episode of Charlie on RTÉ One+1. The episode has so far attracted 13,000 streams on RTÉ Player.

RTÉ were celebrating this good news today, in addition to the fact that 571,000 viewers (34%) watched the first episode of a brand new series of The Voice of Ireland, while 560,400 tuned in to watch an hour-long special of Fair City.

Adrian Lynch, Channel Controller for RTÉ One, described this as “a great start to 2015″ for the channel.
