Child who almost drowned at Leisureland on the road to recovery

Four-year-old Bradley Sweeney’s father says he thought he would be planning his son’s funeral.

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy who almost died after a accident at a swimming pool in Galway has taken his first steps since the incident.

Bradley Sweeney’s apparently lifeless body was pulled from the pool at the Leisureland complex last Sunday. Lifeguards spent half an hour attempting to resuscitate the child at the scene before he was removed to Galway University Hospital.

The Irish Daily Star reports today that Bradley has been woken out of an induced coma and yesterday got out of his hospital bed and walked for the first time. Bradley’s father John is amazed by his recovery, saying “my child was dead…I could be planning my son’s funeral today”.

John Sweeney told The Star that Bradley was starved of oxygen for up to five minutes, but that he is now walking and talking.

The four-year-old was playing with his cousins at Leisureland when he disappeared under the water.
