THERE’S A DIFFERENT crowd than normal training at Na Fianna GAA Club in Glasnevin.

Contestants from China’s biggest reality TV show, The Exploration of The World, have decamped to Dublin to learn traditional Irish skills, including football, hurling, and even a bit of Irish dancing.

The programme is watched by as many as 500 million people.

Georgina Caraher from Experience Gaelic Games, who is facilitating the training of the celebrity contestants, said that the programme was interested in doing a segment on Irish culture and, through Failte Ireland, got in touch with her organisation.

“They’re very taken with how different and how unique hurling is,” she told RTÉ’s News at One, although said they were having mixed success with actually striking the sliotar.

She added that the group is interested in how learning how important GAA clubs are to Irish communities.

Caracher said the celebrities will be in Ireland for the next week, taking part in a range of activities culminating in a live show on Friday.
