Updated at midday.

THE SEARCH FOR Ciara Breen, the teenager who went missing in 1997, resumed this morning, with investigators working in heavy rain for the early part of the day.

Ciara was 17 when she disappeared.

She was last seen at her home on Bachelor’s Walk in Dundalk in the early hours of the morning of Thursday 13 February 1997.

The search yesterday was focusing on an area close the town known as Balmer’s Bog.

The search team, from Dundalk Garda Station, was assisted by members of the Garda Sub Aqua Unit and the Technical Bureau using specialist equipment.

Gardaí have said that the investigation is expected to continue for a number of weeks – and that it won’t be hampered by weather conditions.

The weather is set to improve in the area later today – with rain dying away, and dry spells.

Earlier this year a man in his 50s was arrested in connection with her disappearance but later released.

A renewed appeal for Ciara was issued late last year by gardaí after two potential witnesses came forward and spoke to detectives about the case.

When last seen Ciara was wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans, a wine coloured sweatshirt and a white t-shirt with an image of her own face on it.

She was also wearing a black leather wrist watch with a square face and green background.
